1970 Porsche 914-6

• VIN 9140432126
• Completed May of 1970

Finished in Burgundy with a Black interior. The body is very straight with excellent gaps and panel fit. According to the previous owner, this 914-6 was subjected to a bare metal respray. The 914-6 was totally disassembled and the body was completely stripped down to steel. It was repainted in a beautiful shade of Burgundy metallic which is in exceptional condition. The interior is very nice with a 914 Scheel-type driver's sport seat, VDO instrumentation that has been cleaned and detailed, and an Alpine stereo system.

Powered by a period-correct 914-6 2.0-liter engine (No. 6405458) which was recently rebuilt in August of 2017 to 2.7-liter specifications by Charlies Foreign Car Service in Encinitas, California. The engine was completely disassembled and the engine case and crank were sent out to the machine shop. The crankshaft was inspected and was found to be in great condition as well as the engine case. The cylinder heads were sent out to Motorworks in San Diego to be rebuilt. The engine was then reassembled using all new components including new pistons and cylinders, timing chain, thermostat, oil pump, chain tensioner update, main bearing, and much more, totaling $26,909. The engine is very smooth with a ton of power and is very impressive to drive compared to a normal 914-6 with only 110hp. The 5-speed 901 manual dogleg transmission is very smooth both up and downshifting and the four-wheel disc braking system stops the car straight.

According to the Certificate of Authenticity, this 914-6 came from the factory with USA equipment, light metal wheels, fog lights, and a Blaupunkt 'Frankfurt' Radio. Complete with Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, original owner's manual, jack, and a spare tire. This is an excellent opportunity to acquire an outstanding 914-6 that drives amazing in a great color combination.

History
Porsche's 914-6 featured a carbureted 110 bhp, 2.0 L flat-6 engine from the 1969 911T, which was placed in front of a version of the 1969 911's "901" gearbox configured for a mid-engine sports car. Karmann manufactured the rolling chassis at their plant, completing Volkswagen production in-house or delivering versions to Porsche for their final assembly. The 914-6 models used lower gear ratios and high brake gearing in order to try to overcome the greater weight of the six-cylinder engine along with higher power output. They also featured five-lug wheels and ignition on the left side of the steering wheel. Suspension and handling were otherwise mostly the same.
