1959 Porsche 356A GT Outlaw Coupe

• VIN 106231
• Engine No. 741758 (1.6-liter 912)
• Transmission No. 22144 (5-speed - type 902/1)

Finished in Meissen Blue with a Blue interior with Taupe corduroy inserts on the front seats and on the door panels, this car was restored in 2005 by Schneider AutoHaus (Joe Schneider) in Santa Barbara, California. Work that was done included paint, interior, and bodywork. During the restoration, this rust-free California 356 was converted into a GT Outlaw look. Options include: GT aluminum bumper deco trim with no bumperettes, side deco delete, driving lights, 5.5” x 15” steel wheels painted silver with Pirelli CN36 185/70 15 tires (installed in 2019), Aero side mirror, radio delete plate, Sport dual exhaust, and wood Nardi steering wheel. The gauges have also been restored by North Hollywood Speedometer.

Mechanically, a 911 rear suspension was installed along with a 901 (dogleg) 5-speed transmission (type 902/1) that was completely disassembled, cleaned, and inspected. New bearings were replaced, along with new synchro's installed as well as a reseal. The suspension includes new shocks that were installed with a front sway bar as well as a four-wheel disc brake system in 2005 at 74,007 miles with over $44,000 spent. The electrical system was also upgraded to a 12-volt system.

The 1.6-liter 912 engine (No. P741758) with Solex P40 carburetors was rebuilt at 75,769 miles in 2008 with over $14,000 spent. The machine work was done by Ollies, and a mild Web-Cam 012 was installed along with new main bearings, rod bearings, valves, etc.

The past owner had this 356 serviced and built by Schneider AutoHaus with receipts from 2005 to 2013 totaling over $60,000. The current owner purchased this 356 in 2018 and has enjoyed it over the past 2 years. Being a California 356 for several decades, the floor pans and battery box are very solid and rust-free. This 356 GT Style Coupe has been shown at several Southern California Porsche 356 Club concour events and has been driven at several Targa California events.

This is a very enjoyable 356A to drive with plenty of power. The exhaust tone sounds great, the transmission shifts smoothly, and the four-wheel disc brakes stop the car straight. The paint is presentable but not perfect with some paint imperfections, however, it is a great core car that has been set up very well and can be driven as is or taken to the next level. It is very rare to find a 356A T2 Coupe set up with 911 suspension and 901 transmission to GT specifications.
