This Porsche 356A Coupe is number 2,406 of 3,669 coupes built for the 1958 model year. From the factory, it was finished in Ruby Red (5702) and Beige leatherette interior with corduroy inserts. The only two options specified on the Certificate of Authenticity are the mechanical sliding Golde Sunroof and the ultra-desirable “SUPER” 1600cc engine!

Currently, this Sunroof Coupe is finished in its original color combination and the paintwork is in excellent condition with perfect gaps and panel fit. The car also features US chrome overrider bumpers, Super hub caps, aero mirrors on both the drivers and passenger sides, and the chrome turn signal wedge bases only found on T2 cars. The interior is in superb condition with correct German vinyl, oatmeal square weave carpets, and Black Coco mats with red inserts. Per the Certificate of Authenticity, this 356 has its matching driveline, which provides an excellent drive and delivers 75 horsepower with the flat-four 1600CC SUPER engine.

The matching engine was rebuilt by Bill Richardson in 2015 with 86mm JE pistons, 82.5mm cast-iron cylinders, big valve cylinder heads with new guides, fly cut heads, and valve grind. Both carburetors were also rebuilt and the crank was inspected; including magnaflux with a grind to the required undersize, plasma nitride, and all journals straightened and micro-polished. The case was align bored to .010 under by Ollie's, the fan was welded and balanced by Competition Engineering, and a new aluminum oil cooler was installed. The outcome was a phenomenal driving 356! The past owner acquired this 356 to drive in the Colorado Grand in 2018, completing the 1000 miles without any issues and continued to enjoy it thoroughly up until his recent trade-in for his next Porsche.

Upon arrival at European Collectibles, the floor pans, undercarriage, and suspension were stripped to steel, then a concours-correct undercoating was applied, and all of the suspension was painted. A paint correction was completed with the entire body being color sanded to bring out the luster of the paint. Then, the body panels were inspected and confirmed to be matching to the car. The date codes on the fuel tank, fuel sending unit and seat hinges are all original and date-coded to the build date of the car.

All mechanical systems were checked and every light and switch was found to be operational. On the road, it performs very well and the matching “SUPER” (75HP) engine is noticeably more powerful with 25% more horsepower than the “Normal” 1600cc engines with a mere 60HP. The matching 644 4-speed manual transmission shifts smoothly, and the four-wheel drum brakes stop the car straight. The T2 body is the last of the 356A Coupes and they are truly the best to drive. One of the most desirable 356s; they are indeed getting very difficult to find in this condition and even harder to find SUPER examples that include factory sunroofs.
