1964 Porsche 356C Coupe

• VIN 219041
• Completed June 30, 1964

Competition Motors in Culver City, California, delivered this 356 on August 29, 1964, to James T Archibald from Dublin, California. For the past 18 years, single-family ownership finished in Ruby Red (6402) over black leatherette interior. The paintwork, brightwork, and glass are all in excellent condition. The interior has been upholstered in the correct German vinyl with a Les Leston wooden steering wheel, AM/FM Blaupunkt radio, and VDO instrumentation.

The earliest known history of this vehicle begins in 2004 when European Collectibles sold this 356 to the current owner. At the time of the sale, the owner elected to have European Collectibles upholster the front seats, rear seats, door panels, rear panels, installed 3-point retractable seat belts, and performed a complete undercarriage detail. After taking delivery of the vehicle, it was shipped to the dry state of New Mexico for almost 2 decades. The 356C received regular services from several independent service centers to keep the vehicle in excellent mechanical condition. StarTech Motorcars and Performance Motor Car Investments serviced the vehicle from 2004 to 2013. According to the current owner, Vanil Racing in Cedar Crest, New Mexico, serviced the 356 from 2014 to 2021. A top-end engine rebuild was performed in 2016, a carb rebuild was done in 2018, and the most recent service was in late 2021 including a valve adjustment and service.

Mechanically powered by a period-correct 1600cc flat-four engine (type 616/15) producing 75hp paired to a 4-speed manual transmission (type 741/2C) and a four-wheel disc braking system. This 356 runs excellent with plenty of power and smooth shifting transmission. Complete with services records, spare tire, and jack. An excellent opportunity to acquire a very well sorted and maintained 356C Coupe.

History
The 356 was a lightweight and nimble-handling rear-engine rear-wheel-drive 2-door sports car available in hardtop coupé and open configurations. Engineering innovations continued during the years of manufacture, contributing to its motorsport's success and popularity. The last revision of the 356 was the 356C introduced in September of 1963 for the 1964 model year. It featured disc brakes all around with a 75-horsepower engine.
